Currently both America and China face problems of economic disparity and corruption. The difference in economic
trends is as striking as the common problems. America is facing continuing recession while China faces the limits of
rapid growth. Politically the two countries seem perched on a divide described by Fukyama as 'The End of History'
which he has either clarified or changed as a result of China's success......more here - quote Fukyama.....
In terms of civic life, one wonders if America's tolerance for seemingly 'wacky' unchecked free speech and openness
to the internet (especially for children) might present as important limitations as the Chinese intolerence of public dissention
and their restrictions on the internet. It looks like there is a ditch on both sides of the road.
In any
event, it looks like much of the future, of the two countries, and the world as a whole, will be most heavily influenced by
these two countries, their histories and cultures, and their near-term choices.....so it behooves all of us to observe, learn,
and play what ever roles come to us to serve the future with all the good character we can muster.

said. His daughter also has publicly apologized for the incident. Japan: Culture and Character: The case has sparked outrage
