Subject: Scheduling Work Session 1 - RT3 Grant

Good afternoon -

To begin with thank you for your participation in our Race to the Top Innovation project "Museum in a Box."  What a great opportunity to share best practices with students and teachers across the county and eventually state!  I have attached a portion of the proposal which will give you some more details about the project.

For Year 1, we'll begin by making 3 boxes per grade level (K-5), focusing on Science, Social Studies and Math.  At this first session, we'll be learning about the overall project, reviewing standards and beginning to brainstorm materials, supplies, and ideas for the instructional packets.  Teachers will work in grade-levels for the majority of the session with partners rotating and collaborating with grade-levels based on connections with the standards.  Please see the proposal scope below for more details.

A. Plan for the boxes’ standards-based themes

1.     Research K-5 standards across disciplines

2.     Select 3 standards per grade level and “unpack” the standards by noting specific information to be covered through box contents

B. Plan for the box’s contents of hands-on museum-like artifacts and resources

1.     List applicable resources for each standard

2.     Create an inventory list of the boxes’ primary resources, artifacts, and technology components

3.     Order primary resources, artifacts, and containers

4.     Inventory box contents upon arrival

5.     Prepare Technology components

We will be meeting
a total of 2-4 times either at 3:30 pm on weekdays or on Saturdays over the next few months to address items A. and B. above.  TMS staff members will be paid a $250 stipend per 4 hour session and partners will be paid a $300 stipend (per partner) per 4 hour session.

Please click the link below and select the dates that you can attend.

If you are absolutely unable to participate on a certain day, please leave a note in the comment box.  I'll collect your responses and set our first meeting date for the week after Exhibit Night.  In the meantime, feel free to start reviewing K-5 standards in Science, Social Studies, and Math.

Thanks again for your participation!
